The Proposal
For Christmas 2001, Larry surprised me with a trip to Italy for that coming February! I was floored and SO excited. Although many people thought, "This is it! Larry's going to propose!" I vehemently disagreed. Larry had recently been laid off from his job as a financial trader during one of many rounds of cutbacks at his firm following Sept. 11, 2001. In my mind, buying an engagement ring while being unemployed was simply not in Larry's genes. He is extremely responsible financially, and I never thought a proposal would come at a time like this.
February came, and off to Italy we went. While at the airport, Larry was selected for a "random bag search" at the security checkpoint. I was confused why this made him so nervous and jumpy, but never did I think it was because my ring was hiding in the very same bag that was being searched right in front of us! Luckily, they did not touch the ring and I never had a clue.
Once in Italy we settled into our hotel in Florence and I was ready for a nap! Larry had other ideas though ... He desperately wanted to take a walk to the Arno River to see the sunset over the Ponte Vecchio. We argued a bit as I was tired and cranky and just wanted to sleep for a while. I sarcastically told him that there would be a sunset the following night too, and the night after that as well (poor guy). Later that night, while we were getting ready to go out for dinner, Larry was noticeably anxious, but I never gave it a second thought. On the walk to dinner, Larry stopped me and told me he had written me a letter in Italian that he wanted to read to me. As he read this beautiful letter to me, while standing in the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, he asked me to marry him. My answer was, "Yes," of course. That night was the most amazing and magical night of my life (second only to our wedding), and I will cherish it always as the day he made all my dreams come true!
About the Ring
He picked out my ring, knowing that I wanted a princess-cut stone. It is a 2.15 carat princess-cut solitaire set in platinum.
The Date
Jessica and Lawrence were married on Oct. 4, 2003.
About the Dress
My dress is by Priscilla of Boston. It is a strapless, ivory A-line gown with Leon lace detail. It's a size 6!
