Meet the Brides
Siobhan and Zack: About the Wedding

The Proposal
It's all about love, food and travel for us with a definite taste for the exotic. He's my "lobster" and I'm his "oven" (our nicknames for one another). We met through food. He proposed in Venice. We picked our reception site based on the quality of their food. We had long intimate conversations with our interfaith minister about our marriage over incredibly delicious food. So for us, good food, good wine, good friends and exotic vacations are the components of a good life.

I'm a banker, a vice president in the investor services division of J.P. Morgan Chase, who, prior to meeting Zack, led a pretty mundane life. Don't get me wrong! I had fun, and went out often with my girlfriends to the movies, theater, dinner. However, I was always hoping to meet the man of my dreams. Zack, on the other hand, spends his nights as a captain at the place Zagat's calls "Manhattan's hottest new restaurant," Atelier Restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton, Central Park South. Zack used to spend his evenings admiring various couples holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes. You see, although previously married for 11 years, he still longed to meet the woman of his dreams — his soul mate. Alas, on the night of July 2, 2001, amidst all the dining couples, he found two single women out celebrating a birthday — mine. POOF! Sparks flew when these twinkling Irish blue eyes met that velvety Moroccan smile framed by a tuft of curly black hair! Much later I discovered that my Irish immigrant grandfather actually sailed to America in 1902 on a ship called the "Arabica." Divine portent? Perhaps.

So the 39-year-old gourmet and the 36-year-old banker fell passionately in love. One night I made a list of all the things I wanted in a mate. Zack had nine out of the 10 qualities, and many attributes I hadn't listed or realized I needed. Zack's family has since dubbed us quisato hob, which means love story in Arabic. Who would have thought that two people from very different cultures could make for such a tasty outcome? We have much in common, but our favorites are our two vices: eating and traveling.
